FREE GAME OF THE YEAR, 2007

There are so many quality Free RPGs on the Internet that, even though Free games are considered for the Indie Game of the Year Award, they really deserve their own category. This category honors the game designers who make their works of passion and then offer them for free. Note: If a Free game wins the main award and this Sub-Award, the runner up for this Sub-Award is chosen instead.

THE FREE GAME OF THE YEAR FOR 2007 IS...

Classroom Deathmatch by Jake Richmond and Matt Schlotte / with 66 points

What a great concept for free play!

One of my games of the year and available for free. What more needs to be said?!

My heart goes out to these guys for the timing on the commercial release of this one. As a free game, I hope it gets the audience it deserves.

A simple concept, but with shift narration mechanics. Good stuff.

THE RUNNERS UP:

Microcosm by Levi Kornelsen / with 29 points

A solid attempt at a kitchen-sink, short-form, resource management game. It doesn't solve any of the problems about resource management unearthed by Universalis or Mortal Coil, but it earns points for being succinct and free!

Compact.

Labyrinth Lord by Dan Proctor / with 24 points

Okay, there's nothing "new" here -- but it's presented so clearly, so simply... and for free!

the Dead by Kreg Mosier / with 22 points

An excellent and heartfelt effort, it's my top pick for free RPG because the love of the genre radiates from the pages.

I've heard good things.

Arguably, there's nothing really seriously new here... But for the price, it's quite a package.
